JANUARY 2017 San Diego

We started the 2017 year in San Diego, but a year later we had forgotten.
Finally finding the photographs brought back most of the memories.  It is not so much that we completely forgot, but that we did not remember it was for the New Year.  So, I've assembled some of the photographs, and I'll try to reconstruct the visit.

In the effort to reconstruct, Elizabeth found this link that shows our every step and bus ride on the trip and incorporates some of our pics as well:
We went there from Denver where we had spent a great Christmas

We stayed in a little mother-in-law apartment behind our landlord.  It was very plush.  It seems I must have written it up at sometime, but I can't find those write-ups.  Perhaps my writing is stuck on the little computer somewhere and never was moved.  I probably did not take this larger computer with me.

Here is the kitchen of our little place.
The little house was full of everything we needed except a working television.  Something was the matter with the cable, and rarely could we see an entire movie on Netflix.
One really nice touch was a small, wheeled cart for shopping.  That certainly made walking down to the grocery store and back a good bit easier.  However, we could take the bus back with the groceries, but even then the shopping cart made it easier that carrying everything.

I have not memory of this wine.  But all California wine is grand.  I remember buying it in a little local liquor, or the many choices, and the cheap prices.

I have no memory of this kitchen.  However, we did well cooking there and we were comfortable.  Not far away was a bus line that took us to places we wanted to see, like an art museum and the zoo.  along the way everything was very lush green as San Diego is.

One neighbor was growing kale right on the street next to the sidewalk

We took a long bus ride to Mission valley to the old historic Mexican section of San Diego.  We had been there when we were in San Diego many years before.

This pic is from historic downtown San diego.. the Mexican section.  And the next few pics that follow.

The zoo is part of a huge complex which includes these old buildings.

The zoo was a grand visit.  Really fun.  We did not walk around the huge place but took a shuttle and saw most of it.

We took a tram around the zoo.  Saved our tired feet.

These are pics we took outside the restaurant Gary and Robin took us on New Year's Day 2017.

The following colorful pics are back in historic old town.

I took the bus himself walked around downtown and saw interesting bits. Elizabeth needed a rest.

We met up with Gary Powell and Robin.  We had a great meal at a restaurant overlooking the bay.

I suspect I had seafood.  I remember it was good.

The parking lot was interesting as well, with boats and ducks and fine views.

Gary had a fine conversation with a fellow boat enthusiast

This was one of the best BBQ we ever ate. Grand Ole BBQ Asado

The landlord recommended it.  They cooked each day and opened with what they had, selling it out in record time.  When it was gone, it was gone.  We stood early in line so we had all the choices

We went to the beach near the Coronado Hotel.   Elizabeth is in the restaurant was near there.  Great fish on the wall.

Near the Coronado Hotel we ate in the Brigantine Seafood restaurant.  This is one of about six locations.

These old buildings are in the zoo complex.  We went into a small museum.  Historic Mexican sand murals.. huge and other quirky things.  We liked that it could all be seen in less than an hour.

These buildings are near the zoo complex.
The Museum of Man.

We loved one restaurant that had reasonable prices.  We went once when they let us flip a coin to see if we needed to pay for the wine.  Both Elizabeth and I got our drinks free.
We also went to Perry's restaurant for breakfast.  It is near Old Town.  We went to the State historic park.  We do have some photos of that.
